Susan Calls on Christina Hagan to Put Voters Above the NRA

Press Release

Westlake, OH | Susan Moran Palmer, a Democrat running for the U.S. House of Representatives in Ohio’s 16th Congressional District, today called on Republican candidate, and current member of the Ohio House, Christina Hagan to pledge that she will put the needs of voters above the special interests of the National Rifle Association after Hagan released a provocative video online.

Hagan released a campaign video earlier this week touting her endorsement from the NRA.  In the short video spot, Hagan can be proudly seen firing an AR-15.

“I’m a proud gun owner. I’m a proud member of the NRA. I’m endorsed by the NRA. I am the NRA” Hagan posted online.

Palmer was quick to respond with pointed and direct comments to Hagan.

“Representing the people of the 16th Congressional District means looking out for all of your constituents, not the special interests of the gun lobby,” Palmer said. “I’m committed to reducing gun violence and keeping our children safe. One would hope Representative Hagan would do the same.

“This campaign advertisement is a sad attempt at sensationalizing the idea that the government is coming for guns in the United States. That couldn’t be farther from the truth,” Palmer said. “Legislators on both sides of the aisle should be exploring options to keep our families and communities out of harm’s way, not stoking the fears of a select few to score cheap political points and a contribution from the NRA.”

Earlier this week, Palmer was designated a “Gun Sense Candidate” by Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, the action arm of Everytown For Gun Safety that organized March For Our Lives.

“When I launched this campaign, one of the first things I pledged to do was work with legislators in both parties to curb Gun Violence in the United States. I am proud to have been designated a Gun Sense Candidate.”

Palmer a successful healthcare executive and active community leader, has been calling for immediate, sensible solutions to curb gun violence in the United States. Her plan includes instituting Red Flag laws, requiring universal background checks before purchasing a firearm, and empowering the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Bureau (ATF) to classify and restrict certain types of gun sales in the United States.
